Our Clubroom near Uckfield
The Uckfield Model Railway Club is fortunate to have exclusive use of premises located
just on the outskirts of Uckfield. The building comprises of a large 1600 square foot ground level room
partitioned off in a couple of places to provide an engineering facility and small office. There is a large
car parking area adjacent to the building giving easy access on Club nights.
Although groups within the Club meet on particular nights at different times of the
year it is usual to find work being carried out on Monday and Thursday evenings by
members of all interests. With access to the clubroom being available 24 hours a
day, 365 days of the year, it is common to find activity taking place at other times
of the week including weekends when preparation for events such as exhibitions is required.
Model railway activities revolve around the main open area where the Railway Modellers
meet on Monday evenings from 7.30pm. This area which is approximately 50ft by 20ft is where the layouts
are constructed and operated. Large work benches are available with lighting for modelling work to progress.
The Model Engineers meet mainly on Thursday evenings, again from 8pm, during
the winter months for maintenance and construction of railway equipment.
The engineering area which is closed off for health & safety reasons is fitted out
with a solid bench with a pillar drill and grinder. There is also a large lathe and an upright milling
machine for members use.
Also in one corner of the building is a small area outfitted as a rest area with chairs,
table and a small kitchen bench. This is where members meet and discuss topics of the day, including
railways!
Unlike our previous clubroom we now have the benefit of mains water and a toilet.
