Netherhall & Fletching 00

The Club's '00' BR Southern Region layout

Netherhall and Fletching is the representation of a station which might have been built between Uckfield and Sheffield Park if the since abandoned Ouse Valley railway was fully completed. Situated between Newick to the south-west and Fletching to the north-east, close to Nether Hall Farm, the station has passenger and freight facilities, but no locomotive shed, this being a through station.

Netherhall & Fletching

The layout started out as a fiddle yard to fiddle yard design with a scenic section measuring 10ft 6in x 2ft, but following its first exhibition outing, it was agreed to convert it into a round-and-round format and bring it a few years closer to the present day with the installation of third rail and associated scenic changes in addition to the use of a selection of heavily modified kit and scratch built EMU trains. To accommodate this the modellers license was stretched a little further to extend Fletching from a sleepy village into a larger town, sprawling towards the - by now 3 platform main line - station and small preserved steam line branch to neighbouring Maresfield.

Plan of Layout - Netherhall & Fletching

Constructionally, the layout is all based around analog electrics and uses trusty, although modified, H & M SM3 point motors via local capacitor-discharge units to allow quick (albeit noisy) route-setting of the Peco Code 75 turnouts. The eagle eyed may notice that the plain line track is laid with an increased sleeper spacing to enhance realism. Scenery and buildings are largely sourced from commercial manufacturers such as Hornby, Woodland Scenics, Slaters and SuperQuick although some have been modified to suit their location. The layout was featured in the September 2008 edition of 'Hornby Magazine'.
