Uckfield Model Railway Club

Club activities cover both model railways in the smaller scales (eg 7mm, 4mm, 2mm etc) as well as the larger scales more commonly associated with model engineering societies. The model railway activities revolve around Monday meetings at the Clubrooms in Uckfield. At these meetings work continues on new and existing Club layouts. Every so often running nights are held so that members and visitors can run their stock. Lectures on model railway construction techniques are also held. The Club is very active in the model railway exhibition scene, both with Club and Member's layouts. Trips are also arranged to exhibitions outside of the local area. The Club organises its own Annual Model Railway Exhibition in the local Civic Centre which is gaining a reputation for one of the best "small" shows in the south-east. The Bentley Miniature Railway is the name given to the Club's 5 inch & 7¼ inch dual gauge ground level miniature passenger carrying railway which members have built and operate during the summer months. The railway is in part of the grounds of the Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum at Halland, just south of Uckfield. Maintenance, repairs and new works at the railway are carried out on Saturday afternoons and Thursday evenings throughout the Summer (Easter till September). During the winter months the onsite works switch to the Sunday with the Thursday evening meeting moving indoors to the Clubrooms for maintenance and construction of railway equipment. Social meetings are held on an occasional basis for film shows etc., at the Clubrooms and other venues. A formal Club Dinner is held each year to which partners are invited. The Club also holds barbecue evenings for all members, families and friends at the Miniature Railway on the Late May and August Bank Holiday weekends. The Club publishes a journal, "Model and Miniature TrackWorker", several times a year which is circulated to all members.
